Story

Excellence In PrivatE Charter Guiding Since 2001

I was born in Southern California about twenty minutes southwest of Los Angeles in the small coastal city of Rancho Palos Verdes. My parents, Roger and Dell, originated from Gary, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois, marrying and relocating to California after World War II. Dad was a second lieutenant bombardier in the War, an inventor, and a lifelong avid fisherman. His love of the outdoors and hardy work ethic were instilled in me early on.

I was seven years old when Dad introduced me to fishing. We’d fish for trout, catfish, and then bass, which I thought of as more of a challenge. Freshwater fishing gave way to saltwater fishing, catching stingrays, halibut, bonito, and mackerel. It was on the waters of Lake Casitas, Lake Castaic, Lake Skinner, San Pedro Harbor, and the Pacific that I learned to drive a boat. I was taught from a young age how to be safe on boats and do things the right way.

I was 16 years old when we moved to Naples, Florida in 1988. It was in California I began fishing team tournaments, a pastime that would continue after moving to Florida. I competed extensively in bass fishing tournaments, moving my way up the ranks to the semi-pros until I qualified for the top levels of the Bassmasters Elite and FLW. I toured the most prominent trails of the U.S., traveling for several years expanding my skills as an angler and captain.

I’ve worked with the public as a respected freshwater and saltwater fishing captain for over two decades. It is my goal to provide guests an opportunity to experience the open water in a comfortable, relaxed, and safe setting. For me, it’s all about bringing you and your family and friends an enjoyable day on the water with customized private itineraries that won’t leave you feeling exhausted or like a number.

My ideal clients are people who simply like to have fun and enjoy themselves in nature. I’ve worked with people of all ages, ethnicities, nationalities, and orientations - I encourage everyone, boating novices to enthusiasts alike to take every opportunity to explore the beauty of the waters and coasts. There are so many lessons and gifts the natural world gives us. The power of the human mind is a great fascination for me so here I’ll leave you with my favorite quote:

“Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless — like water. You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

- Bruce Lee
